Grand Blanc Defeats Saline 14-13

All of our Video Highlights of last night’s game.

Bobcats Swat the Hornets
Last week, the Bobcats moved up to #32 in the Top 50 Michigan High School Football teams. The Grand Blanc Bobcats had their final regular-season game against the previously undefeated Saline Hornets yesterday evening. Below is a summary of last night’s game.
To begin, Saline won the coin toss and chose to defer. With the wind blowing hard in their favor, the kick goes into the end zone. Starting at GB 20, the Bobcats begin their first drive against Saline defense. Ty Brotebeck engineered a high-paced first drive during the lingering showers of the first quarter. To cap off the drive, Elijah Jackson-Anderson takes the handoff from Ty Brotebeck and scores on an 8 yard TD run! With 4:40 left in the first quarter, the Bobcats lead 7-0. Saline mishandles Dylan Hertzberg’s short kick, and Kai Hopewell recovers the fumble. However, Saline defense stiffens and forces the Bobcats to punt. At the end of the first quarter, Grand Blanc leads Saline 7-0.
The second quarter begins with a Cross Dobbs sack, forcing the Hornets offense to punt. Jonah Meleski returns the punt to the Grand Blanc 15-yard line. On the next GB drive, the Hornets force the Bobcats to punt again. Later on, Saline finds the end zone on a 1-yard quarterback keeper and score a Hornet touchdown! With less than six minutes left the second quarter, the ball game is tied 7-7. Dylan Hertzberg’s kickoff lands in the end zone for a touchback. Our Bobcat defense came to play tonight and force Saline to punt again. With 25 seconds left of the half, the Bobcats fumble, and the Hornets recover. Xavier Urquhart makes the sack on the final play of the half.
Saline starts the second half with a long scoring drive entering the end zone with a 2-yard run, followed by a no-good PAT. With 9 minutes left in the 3rd quarter, Saline leads 13-7. Kai Hopewell recovers the onside kick for Grand Blanc. But the Hornets are able to get possession again after forcing the Bobcats to punt on a 3-and-out. Later, Lorenzo Wood intercepts Saline’s pass, giving Grand Blanc control. Ty Brotebeck throws it to Jonah Meleski out in the flat and results in him making a long run. A few plays later, Ty Brotebeck hands off to Dennis Underwood for a 2-yard Bobcat touchdown! With the extra point by multi-athlete Dylan Hertzberg, Grand Blanc leads 14-13 with less than 6 minutes to go in the 3rd. On Saline’s 20-yard line, Saline attempts to march down the field but are smothered by the Bobcat defense and forced to punt the ball. At the end of the third quarter, Grand Blanc leads Saline 14-13.
Early in the final quarter, the Hornets defense forced the Bobcats punt on a 3-and-out. But soon after, the Bobcat defense stuffs the Hornets on fourth and short. Following later, Saline picks off a pass by Grand Blanc in the end zone. However, Grand Blanc’s defense keeps the Saline offense from gaining the first down and force them to punt on a 3-out. With 3:56 left in the game, the Bobcats lead 14-13. Grand Blanc is later forced to punt by Saline’s 48-yard line. Then the Hornets are stopped again and forced to punt from their own 13. Afterward, Saline recovers a fumble by Grand Blanc and then attempts a pass, which is no good. Our defense played strong all night and were forced to overcome several turnovers during this damp cold night at The Frank. It came down to one of many 4th down stops with about a minute to play to seal the victory for our Bobcats 14-13.
2020 has been the best regular season in several years for the Bobcats. Many on this team were Freshmen when Coach Alexander arrived in 2017, and we are seeing the benefits of the Tribe culture Alexander brought with him. They’ve won five games, and their only loss was to last year’s State Champions, the Davison Cardinals. Now the Bobcats await the seatings for the playoffs, which will be announced this weekend on Twitter. Great work, Bobcats!
