Bobcats Thrash Lapeer 34-16

Anticipation was in the cool air when our Bobcats took the field at Lapeer High School.  The Bobcats were coming off a sound defeat to Davison last week and had lost to Lapeer the last 4 meetings. But there is something different about this team; they lost very few games in previous years while these players were maturing on the Freshmen and JV teams. Coach Clint Alexander’s mission has never focused on just the Varsity squad but rebuilding the entire program, and the results are now showing.

To begin the game, Dylan Hertzberg kicks off to Lapeer. Grand Blanc’s defense forces Lapeer to punt on a 3 and out. Ty Brotebeck begins his first of many scoring drives on the night. To cap off the initial Bobcat drive, Grand Blanc’s two-way talent, Elijah Jackson-Anderson, runs 11 yards for a GB touchdown. With seven minutes left in the first quarter, Grand Blanc is in the lead 7-0. Lapeer follows with a drive of their own, but our Bobcats Defense came to play tonight by stopping Lapeer on a fourth and 2 from the Bobcat 4 yard line. The first quarter ends with the Bobcats up 7-0.

Midway through the second quarter, Tyler Brotebeck connects on a screen pass to Stephen Brown, who runs 55 yards for a Grand Blanc touchdown. With 7:22 in the second quarter, Grand Blanc leads Lapeer 14-0. Our multi-sport athlete, kicker Dylan Hertzberg, nails the extra point for Grand Blanc. Our dominant defense stops Lapeer again and forces them to punt. Later in the quarter, Ty Brotebeck connects with Elijah Jackson-Anderson for a 25 yard TD Pass. The first half ends with the Bobcats up 20-0 over Lapeer.

The Bobcats receive the ball to begin the second half. Grand Blanc QB1, Ty Brotebeck, engineers a time-killing drive ending with an 11 yard TD throw to Jack Goldie. Halfway through the third quarter, our Bobcats are up 27-0. Lapeer ends the shutout attempt with a 71 yard TD run by Brayden McKenna, and they successfully converted a 2 point conversion. After Lapeer’s defense forces a 3 and out, Lapeer makes another drive into Bobcat territory. Elijah Jackson-Anderson ends this final drive of Q3 by sacking Lapeer on fourth and 8.

The Bobcats take over on downs to start Q4. Lapeer forces a fumble and regains possession in Bobcat territory. Brayden McKenna runs for his second TD of the game. With 9 minutes left, Bobcats lead Lapeer 27-16. Ty Brotebeck passes the ball to Jonah Meleski, who then runs 40 yards for the final score of the game on the Bobcat’s next possession.

This was a huge victory for the Bobcats. The defense came to play with tremendous energy. Ty Brotebeck threw for four touchdowns. Elijah Jackson-Anderson scored twice and had a big defensive sack. Jack Goldie is going to be a force to be reckoned with. The coaching staff had a great game plan, and they were able to fix some gaps in their play from last week’s loss to the Davison Cardinals. Next week our Bobcats will host Arthur Hill. The sky is the limit with this team.
