Grand Blanc should be one of the best teams in the Midwest, let alone Michigan. Some Bobcats flexed that regional muscle in Chicago, where Mean Streets, an EYBL program, held a workout.
Amonte Allen-Johnson 6-0 So Grand Blanc: Defended and competed at a high level, as we’ve already come to expect from this young player. Improving on offense just needs to be a bit more refined to execute against multiple D1 guys out there, but he’s getting close. Cherish Grand Blanc note: Look for significant contribution this year from Mr. Allen-Johnson!
Nate Brown 6-2 Sr Grand Blanc: Thick and strong offensively aggressive guard who plays with a chip on his shoulder. Lefty sniper who dropped 3s throughout the day but can also bull his way to the rack and create points that way. Has the physical tools, mentality, and coaching to defend. Call him Nate Dawg, he’s earned it. Will need to become more of a facilitator for the next level. Brown could conceivably follow the trajectory of Flint area guards who weren’t big-time recruiting names in high school but went on to accomplished mid-major careers like Carman-Ainsworth’s Cameron Morse (Youngstown State) and Glenn Cosey (Eastern Kentucky). Cherish Grand Blanc note: Nate Brown loves doubt, turns it into fuel. Don’t be surprised to see him with strong D1 offers soon!
Ty Rodgers 6-6 Jr Grand Blanc: Rodgers was the best player in the gym. So what else is new? Just too big, strong, explosive slashing to the hoop. Can cover so much space in such little time, all with body control and power. An unselfish and smart passer, he’s a true basketball player, not just a 99th percentile athlete making highlight dunks. Could defend in the Big Ten right now. When the jumper is dropping too, what are you gonna do? The competition is really going to miss nice, deferential underclassman Ty, as the upperclassman version is a menace and the top prospect playing MHSAA ball this winter. RJ Taylor 5-11 So Grand Blanc: There was a strong contingent of 2023 Chicago point guards in attendance, but Taylor, the top-ranked sophomore guard in Michigan, represented the Great Lakes State well, taking a backseat to none of the Windy City contingents. Amazing to see his defensive improvement, from a nearly non-factor a year ago, now after growing up quick against the toughest schedule in the state last winter, an impact presence on that end who can make life miserable for opposing ball-handlers. Shot better in games than drills, and got buckets for his teammates which doesn’t always happen in this environment. Cherish Grand Blanc comment: RJ Taylor was by far NOT a non-factor last year….smh…:)
